Welcome to the amazing/wonderful world where here lay the seeds (children) scattered/sown from Rangiaatea ‘Magic Sparks’
Magic Sparks provides high-quality early childhood education and childcare services in Palmerston North, Petone (Lower Hutt) and Paraparaumu on the Kāpiti Coast.
At Magic Sparks, we create calm, welcoming environments where tamariki feel safe, valued and inspired to explore. Our centres combine nurturing care with intentional teaching, supporting each child’s unique strengths, interests, culture and development.
With low teacher-to-child ratios and experienced, passionate kaiako, we foster curiosity, confidence and meaningful relationships building strong foundations for lifelong learning.
In partnership with whānau, we provide nutritious meals prepared onsite, extended opening hours for busy families, 20 Hours Free ECE for 3 and 4 year olds, and a structured transition-to-school programme designed to support confident school starters.
Who are we?
Nau mai, haere mai — welcome to Magic Sparks, where every tamaiti is cherished, celebrated, and given the space to grow into who they are meant to be. We are more than a daycare; we are a home away from home, rooted in the values of whanaungatanga and manaakitanga — genuine connection, deep care, and belonging for every child and whānau who walks through our doors.
Our beautifully designed learning environments — Te Whānau o Kowhai for our under-twos and Te Whānau o Pohutukawa for our over-twos — are alive with curiosity, wonder, and the joy of discovery. Inspired by Te Whāriki, our curriculum honours the whole child: their interests, their identity, their cultural roots, and their boundless potential. Our kaiako don’t just teach — they listen, they guide, they celebrate. From muddy hands in the sandpit to hikoi through our local hapori, from tuakana teina moments between our tamariki to the warmth shared with every whānau at pick-up — this is Magic Sparks’ a place where sparks of curiosity grow into a lifelong love of learning.
Why Families Choose Magic Sparks
Our teacher-to-child ratios exceed Ministry requirements, allowing kaiako to build genuine, responsive relationships with every child.
Grounded in Te Whāriki, our curriculum follows children’s interests and individual learning goals while thoughtfully extending their learning and development through engaging play experiences.
From settling-in visits to our structured transition-to-school programme, we prioritise emotional security and confidence at every stage.
Extended hours, 20 Hours Free ECE and clear communication make high-quality care accessible and supportive.

About Magic Sparks
Magic Sparks is proudly locally owned and operated, providing high-quality early childhood education across Palmerston North, Petone and Paraparaumu.
Founded in 2011 by Angie Stead, Magic Sparks was created from a deep passion for early childhood education and a belief that the early years shape lifelong confidence, resilience and curiosity.
Since opening our first centre in Milson, Magic Sparks has grown into a trusted network of four centres, each grounded in the same philosophy: nurturing care, intentional teaching and genuine partnership with whānau.
Our experienced kaiako bring warmth and professionalism to their work, supported by strong leadership and teacher-to-child ratios that exceed Ministry standards.
At Magic Sparks, children and their families are at the heart of everything we do. We don’t simply provide care we invest in confident futures.
Our philosophy
Nurturing Care and Education that Ignites the Spark of Genius in Every Child
The early years create the foundation for lifelong learning and success.
At Magic Sparks, we combine play-based learning with intentional teaching, following Te
Whāriki to support each child’s emotional, social and cognitive development.
Our philosophy is based on three pillars
- Respect for ourselves — nurturing emotional intelligence
- Respect for others — building social competence
- Respect for the environment — fostering responsibility and connection
We believe every child carries their own unique strengths — their ‘Genius’. Our role is to help them recognise those strengths and grow with confidence.
Through warm relationships, rich learning environments and genuine partnership with whānau, we create spaces where children feel secure enough to explore and confident enough to thrive.
Our Difference
Not all early childhood centres are the same.
At Magic Sparks, we combine warmth with professionalism — creating environments where children feel safe and inspired, and families feel confident in their choice.
What sets us apart:
Intentional Teaching
We don’t simply supervise. We thoughtfully extend learning through play, guided by Te Whāriki.

continuous improvement.
Whole-Child Focus
We nurture emotional intelligence, social confidence and independence — not just academic
readiness.
